Oxlade-Chamberlain to be given new deal by Arsenal

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is to be offered a new contract at Arsenal after a successful 12 months in which he has made an impact for both the Gunners and England. The Daily Mail reports Oxlade-Chamberlain and the club will begin talks on a new deal later this month, despite the fact that 19-year-old still has four years left on his current deal.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is clearly keen to tie down Oxlade-Chamberlain’s talents for the long-term, having seen the likes of Gael Clichy, Samir Nasri, Robin van Persie and now Theo Walcott run their contracts down and leave or in Walcott’s case, stall on signing a new deal. Oxlade-Chamberlain arrived at Arsenal from Southampton only last summer but enjoyed an impressive season as he made 26 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals. His form caught the eye of England manager Roy Hodgson, who chose him to be part of the country’s Euro 2012 squad, where he made three appearances, one of which as a starter in England’s opening game v France.
