Podolski finishing impresses stand-in Arsenal boss Bould

Steve Bould has hailed the finishing ability of Arsenal striker Lukas Podolski after the summer signing netted his third goal in as many games and helped the Gunners to victory in their first Champions League match of the season, the Daily Mirror has reported.

Podolski levelled the scores against Montpellier after Younes Belhanda’s Panenka-style penalty had put the home side in front inside 10 minutes. Podolski equalised less than 10 minutes later and Ivory Coast winger Gervinho put Arsenal ahead shortly after, but it was the Germany international that Bould singled out for praise.

Bould, the Arsenal assistant manager who stood in for the suspended Arsene Wenger, said he had not seen many players with the finishing ability of Podolski. Bould added: “Podolski’s made a real impact. I’ve not seen many finishers as good as him – ever. Right foot, left foot. They always go in at 100mph in training. He’s a good trainer, a good boy. He’s really added something this year.

Podolski has tended to score goals wherever he has played, be it at club level or on the international scene. The 27-year-old scored 86 goals in two spells with FC Koln, and in between hit 26 for Bayern Munich. For Germany, Podolski has 44 goals in over 100 games.
