Real Madrid welcome Manchester City to the Santiago Bernabeu in a game that sees the UEFA Champions League back with a bang in this heavyweight clash.
If Roberto Mancini could have picked the perfect time to face the Spanish champions in Madrid, it would have been now, with Real currently in relative disarray, holding 12th position in the Primera Liga. One victory, and two defeats from their opening four fixtures is an almost unthinkable start to the season for the Spanish giants, but hosting the Premier League winners will give Jose Mourinho the perfect opportunity to kick-start their faltering 2012-13 campaign.
Manchester City come to the Santiago Bernabeu without the controversy that currently follows Mourinho, however their start to the season has not been faultless, with 2 draws from their opening four games, including Saturday’s away tie with Stoke City. Currently sitting in fourth position however, Mancini will fancy their chances of being competitive and maybe causing Mourinho more problems.
Real Madrid have a full strength side to pick from, meaning Joe Hart will be on the look out for the dangerous front four combination of Mesut Ozil, Luka Modric, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema. Angel Di Maria and ‘Ricky’ Kaka will be on one of the two star-studded benches.
One possible change in the City side could see Douglas Maicon come into the side at right-back, replacing Micah Richards (ankle). It had been widely reported that Mourinho had been keen on reuniting with the Brazilian, providing competition for places with Alvaro Arbeloa, however the former Inter star has ended up with another former Coach in Mancini.
Carlos Tevez and Sergio Aguero are both set to start, supported by Samir Nasri, and David Silva, who will be looking to celebrate his recently signed extension to his contract.
