Ronaldo plays down Real Madrid unrest amid Man Utd return rumours

Cristiano Ronaldo has moved to diminish rumours he is unhappy at Real Madrid, the Daily Mirror has reported, after reports emerged the Portugal winger was discontented with life in Spain and Manchester United were plotting a move to bring him back to the Premier League.

Ronaldo cut a desolate figure when he declined to celebrate scoring twice for Madrid in a La Liga match shortly before the break for international fixtures, later claiming his lack of enthusiasm at bagging a brace was down to feeling “sad” about certain matters relating to the club.

His comments caused a flurry of rumour and speculation, with Manchester United said to be working out the financial details of a bid to return Ronaldo to the club he left in 2009. Big-spending duo Paris Saint-Germain and Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala were also said to be interested in ending Ronaldo’s stay in Spain.

But Ronaldo has released a statement via his official Facebook profile in which he insists talk of his displeasure has been greatly exaggerated. He said: “I would like to reaffirm, without worrying about contracts, that my focus is on winning every game and every trophy with my team-mates and all Madridistas.
