Silva to sign new Man City contract

David Silva is to sign a bumper new contract at Manchester City, the Daily Mail has reported, as the Premier League champions fend off interest in the playmaker from their Champions League opponents Real Madrid.

Silva’s new deal will see him earn in the region of £200,000 per week, putting him on par with the highest-paid names at the club, including captain Vincent Kompany, midfielder Yaya Toure and striker Carlos Tevez. The contract will run for five years.

With bonuses, however, the terms of Silva’s deal could see his pay rise to £250,000 per week, as the contract includes financial incentives and rewards should the team succeed in the Premier League or the Champions League.

Talks over a new contract had rumbled on throughout the summer, with the Mail claiming at one point the parties were locked in a stalemate. However, the newspaper adds that the appointment of City’s new chief executive, Ferran Soriano, a compatriot of Silva, gave the negotiations the jolt they needed and brought the discussion closer to a conclusion.
