Franco Baldini is expected to reject the chance to work with Andre Villas-Boas as director of football at Tottenham Hotspur in order to remain as general manager of current club Roma, the
Daniel Levy, the Tottenham chairman, is said to be seeking to replicate the more continental approach employed at White Hart Lane prior to the arrival as manager of Harry Redknapp. Before Redknapp’s appointment, Damien Comolli was the club’s director of football but he was sacked in October 2008, at the same time as Redknapp’s predecessor Juande Ramos.
The Mail claims Tottenham are specifically looking for someone to co-ordinate the club’s scouting network – a recruitment specialist, according to the newspaper – with Baldini being Villas-Boas’ recommendation after Ian Broomfield was sacked as chief scout.
Baldini has worked in English football before as assistant to Fabio Capello with the national team, as well as a spell with Capello at Real Madrid. A former midfielder, Baldini played for the likes of Bari and Pescara before retiring from playing in the early 1990s.
