Tottenham v QPR – Match preview and team news

Tottenham may have finally got their first win under Andre Villas-Boas against Reading last week but following Thursday’s 0-0 draw at White Hart Lane with Lazio in the Europa League, Villas-Boas remains in search of his first home win as Spurs manager. He may have an ideal opportunity to end that record on Sunday against local rivals QPR, where manager Mark Hughes has failed to obtain an away win since he took over at Loftus Road in January.

Villas-Boas is expected to recall veteran Brad Friedel in place of France international Hugo Lloris, who made his club debut and kept a clean sheet against Lazio. Elsewhere, Emmanuel Adebayor is set to undergo a fitness test after missing Spurs’ Europa League clash with a hamstring problem. Benoit Assou-Ekotto (knee) remains absent meaning Kyle Naughton, if he overcomes a fitness test, will continue to deputise. Younes Kaboul (knee) and Scott Parker (achilles) remain out.

QPR were hit by the news this week that striker Andy Johnson is set to miss the majority of the season after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury making a routine challenge during last weekend’s 0-0 draw with Chelsea, leaving Mark Hughes with to choose between Jamie Mackie and Djbrill Cisse as Johnson’s replacement.

Elsewhere, Hughes has defensive problems with Anton Ferdinand and on-loan Fabio both set to miss out with hamstring problems while potential replacement Stephane M’Bia is doubtful.

QPR have started the season relatively poorly after a raft of summer arrivals and will be looking to move out of the relegation zone with a positive performance at White Hart Lane.
