Arsenal boss Wenger urges Hodgson to leave Wilshere out of England friendly

England manager Roy Hodgson will be asked by his Arsenal counterpart Arsene Wenger not to rush Jack Wilshere back into the international set-up after the midfielder played his first Premier League game in almost 18 months, the Daily Mirror has reported.

Wilshere played 67 minutes of the Gunners’ 1-0 win over Queens Park Rangers at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, his first top flight football since May 2011. Wilshere’s last league appearance for Arsenal came against Fulham, in a 2-2 draw at Craven Cottage.

The 20-year-old suffered a stress fracture to his ankle in a pre-season friendly against New York Red Bulls in July 2011 and has struggled to regain fitness ever since, picking up a series of subsequent injuries that continually delayed his comeback.

But Wilshere has appeared in a number of U-21 games for Arsenal and now has more than an hour of top flight football under his belt, leading to suggestions he could be part of the England squad to play Sweden on November 14.
