Arsenal have been warned that they must treat Schalke striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar with the respect his talents deserve when the sides meet in the Champions League on Wednesday, the
Schalke midfielder Jermaine Jones, briefly of Blackburn Rovers, has talked up the ability of Huntelaar ahead of the match at the Emirates Stadium, stressing that Huntelaar will be a constant threat to the Arsenal back line as the Bundesliga club look to build on their positive recent results.
The weekend’s Ruhr derby with German champions Borussia Dortmund – who are in the same Champions League group as Manchester City – ended in victory for Schalke, although Huntelaar was not on the score sheet in the 2-1 victory. The goals came from on-loan Barcelona midfielder Ibrahim Afellay and Marco Hoger, with Robert Lewandowski on target for Dortmund.
Jones nevertheless believes Huntelaar is the team’s danger man, instructing Arsenal to try and keep a close watch on the Netherlands international. He said: “Klaas-Jan has shown the world what a quality player he is. He scores goals, is a brilliant finisher and gives a lot to the team. If you give him the ball anywhere near the box then he can score and punish opponents.”
