Two of the top three sides in the Barclays Premier League face-off at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, as Manchester United seek three points that would put them above rivals Man City, and one point behind Chelsea.
Chelsea have picked up where they left off last season under Coach Roberto Di Matteo, currently unbeaten in their eight league matches this season, a spell which includes wins against top four contenders Arsenal and Tottenham, both away from home. This early season form has seen them top the table, a position they will hold regardless of today’s result.
Man Utd meanwhile have been defeated twice, away to Everton and more recently at home to Tottenham, however having won every other game, they remain well in contention for the title in third place, with a game in hand over their city neighbours.
Frank Lampard went off injured with a calf problem in the Champions League defeat in midweek against Shakhtar, and will miss this weekend’s tie, while John Terry is serving his ban for using racist language. Goalkeeper Petr Cech is set to captain the side.
Man Utd are without Shinji Kagawa who is out with a knee injury, was injured in United’s hard-fought midweek Champions League victory over Braga. Nemanja Vidic is still out with a knee injury, while they are without other longterm absentees Chris Smalling and Phil Jones.
