The Blues won 4-2 at White Hart Lane in a tough London derby against Tottenham and kept their four point lead over Manchester United at the top of the Premier League. Chelsea have been involved in John Terry’s racism case for a long time and the Football Association banned the defender for four games, the first one being Saturday’s victory over Spurs. Di Matteo has not had to worry about his players becoming affected by the issue and praised the manner in which they have gone about their business so far this season, having yet to taste defeat so far.
Di Matteo said: “It (the Terry issue) has been going on for a long time and we have just tried to focus on what is our priority, the football aspect. We haven’t been distracted and just focused on the football. We have done that well.”
Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck confirmed that Terry will remain club captain and Di Matteo was happy with the decision the club made. Terry will be heavily fined on top of the £220,000 fine the FA inflicted on the former England international and Di Matteo stated that he respects the decision made by the board and owner Roman Abramovich.
