David Moyes has criticised the decision to send off Everton winger Steven Pienaar in the 1-1 draw with Queens Park Rangers on Sunday, the BBC
Pienaar was dismissed in the second-half of the Premier League encounter after picking up two yellow cards and stands to miss next weekend’s Merseyside derby meeting with Liverpool as a result.
There was less than 10 minutes between Pienaar’s first booking and his second, received for appearing to trip Portuguese full-back Jose Bosingwa although replays showed contact to be minimal between the two.
Moyes, who claimed referee John Moss had entered a poor performance when taking charge of Everton’s defeat to West Bromwich Albion earlier in the season, described the dismissal as “ludicrous”, adding: “He must have known the player was on a yellow card but he ends up giving him a red and sending him off anyway.”
The manager continued by suggesting the loss of Pienaar deprived Everton of any chance of taking three points from the match as they were a man short of the hosts for the final half an hour of play.
Junior Hoilett had given QPR an early lead, his shot deflecting past Tim Howard via the heel of Leighton Baines, but a Julio Cesar own goal restored parity before half-time, the ball hitting the goalkeeper and crossing the line after Sylvain Distin’s header struck the post.
