Roy Hodgson has admitted he is happy that England took a point from their World Cup qualification match in Poland, the BBC
England took the lead through a miscued Wayne Rooney header that actually came off the Manchester United striker’s shoulder shortly before half-time, only to be pegged back after the break by a Kamil Gilk goal from a Poland set-piece.
The draw keeps England top of Group H but two of the sides below, Poland and Montenegro, have played one game less than Hodgson’s team, and could go level on points with and above England respectively in the next round of fixtures. Montenegro trail England by a point while there is a gap of three to Poland.
Hodgson said: “Sometimes you just have to be satisfied to come away with something. Sometimes there are days when things don’t always go your way and it is important when they happen to come away with a result you can regard as a positive one.”
The match was originally to be played on Tuesday evening but was postponed almost 24 hours because of a waterlogged pitch.
