Walcott has so far failed to agree an extension to his Arsenal contract despite the deal expiring next summer, with Walcott’s role under Arsene Wenger said to be a large part of the reason for the delay.
The former Southampton player sees himself as ready to move away from the right wing spot usually given to him by Wenger, with Walcott targeting a place as a centre-forward instead. Wenger however sees things differently, insisting that while he is not against the idea of Walcott playing centrally, he has other options in his squad and is prefers to use them for the moment.
While Walcott will be free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with a side outside England in January, the Mail believes City and Liverpool will make their move for Walcott then as well, offering Arsenal a fee for a player who could leave for nothing next year.
