Liverpool saw their upturn in form halted by an Antonio Di Natale-inspired Udinese side in the Europa League but Brendan Rodgers will be confident that following his side’s thumping first league win of the season at Norwich last week, that a first Anfield victory will soon follow.
Thus, Rodgers is likely to select the same starting eleven that delivered at Carrow Road and so youngsters Suso, Andre Wisdom and Raheem Sterling look all set to keep their places in the starting line-up, while up front, Luis Suarez is in superb goalscoring form and will lead the line. Jonjo Shelvey remains suspended.
Stoke will travel to Anfield in high spirits after they collected their first Premier League win of the season at home to Swansea last week and will take heart from their performances at Anfield in the past, particularly last season where Tony Pulis’ men managed to hold their more illustrious counterparts to a goalless draw.
The Potters have Matthew Etherington pushing for his first start since his return from injury while Michael Owen will be itching to get onto the field after being overlooked throughout last week’s victory.
Owen is one of four former Liverpool players who could feature, along with Charlie Adam, Jermaine Pennant and Peter Crouch. Stoke will be without Andy Wilkinson however, who is still banned following his off the ball collision with Manchester City’s Mario Balotelli.
