Man City keep tabs on Fiorentina starlet Jovetic

Manchester City have reportedly made fresh moves in their pursuit of long-time target Stevan Jovetic from Fiorentina and could make a bid for the Montenegro frontman in the January transfer window.

According to the Daily Mail, Jovetic was watched in Fiorentina’s 2-1 defeat at Inter on the weekend by City’s football development executive Patrick Vieira.

Jovetic, who came to British prominence when scoring two Champions League goals for La Viola against Liverpool in the 2009-10 season and scored 14 goals in 27 appearances in Italy last season, was reportedly the subject of enquiries from Roberto Mancini in the summer only for his club side to hold firm.

However, the goalposts seem to have moved since the transfer window slammed shut with Fiorentina’s technical director Eduardo Macia recently announcing: “It will be very difficult to keep him at Fiorentina, he is a great player who will eventually play for another club.

City take on Borussia Dortmund in their second Champions League group match at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday knowing a win is vital if they are to retain hopes of reaching the knockout stages of the competition for the first time.
