Man City’s Zabaleta targeting maximum points from remaining Champions League games

Manchester city full-back Pablo Zabaleta remains upbeat on his side’s chances of reaching the knockout stages of the Champions League despite a shaky start that saw the Premier League champions lose their opening match to Real Madrid late on in the Bernabeu. City also needed a controversial Mario Balotelli penalty to snatch a point at home to a Borussia Dortmund side that had threatened to run riot at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday only to find City goalkeeper Joe Hart in supreme form.

One point from two games leaves City trailing behind the German champions in third position and according to the Daily Mail, Argentina international Zabaleta believes that City must improve to secure victory at Ajax in their next European encounter if they are to avoid a repeat of last season, when the Citizens failed to make it out of the groups.

We know we can do better,” Zabaleta said. “It is time to work hard and try to improve. We know it is going to be very difficult but we have to believe. We need to go to Amsterdam [Ajax] and try to win. With only one point we have the pressure, but we need to be positive.

Roberto Mancini’s team have endured a less than impressive start to the season and ahead of their Premier League clash with Sunderland this weekend, have failed to keep a clean sheet in any fixture so far in this campaign.
