Chelsea playmaker Juan Mata has called for his teammates to keep up the form that has seen them race into a four point lead at the top of the Premier League for the next few months, claiming that their title challenge depends on it, according to the
Mata starred in Saturday’s 4-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane, a game in which the Spain international scored twice and created another, for Daniel Sturridge. The goals were Mata’s fifth and sixth in his last five games, taking his tally for the season to half of what he recorded in the last campaign already.
Chelsea are facing a hectic late autumn and winter, however, as they will not only have to cope with the rigours of the league programme but also face a trip to Japan in the FIFA Club World Cup in December, due to their status as the winners of last season’s Champions League.
Mata has however insisted that Chelsea must keep up their form over what he believes will be a crucial period. He said: “The next two months will decide if this is a genuine title challenge. It’s always like that in November and December. There are a lot of games and you have to keep fighting for the title in those two months. For me it’s the most important part of the season.”
