John Obi Mikel is expected to sign a new contract with Chelsea that would keep him at Stamford Bridge for the next five years, ESPN
Mikel is in the final year of his current deal and has been in negotiations with the Champions League holders for some time, ESPN adds, but the 25-year-old’s agent recently revealed that talks are progressing well, with an understanding said to have been reached between the club and the player.
John Shittu, Mikel’s agent, is quoted as saying: “Mikel will soon sign a new five-year contract with an improved salary and we are just about finalising the details of it. He has a year left and Chelsea have decided to add four more years to it.”
Mikel has been at Chelsea since 2006, moving to West London from Norwegian club Lyn, based in the capital, Oslo. The Nigerian’s move to Chelsea was controversial, however, as Manchester United also claimed to have signed a deal to bring the player to the Premier League, with the matter eventually resolved between the player, his representatives and three clubs involved.
