Brendan Rodgers says he has no regrets over his decision to field a strong Liverpool side for their Europa League win over Anzhi Makhachkala at Anfield on Thursday night.
With the Merseyside derby with in-form Everton on the horizon, many were surprised to see the likes of Luis Suarez, Steven Gerrard, Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel take the field for the Reds, who got their Group A campaign back on track with a 1-0 victory over the big-spending Russians courtesy of a long-range Stewart Downing strike.
However, according to ESPN,
“For us, it is about taking it one game at a time,” Rodgers said. “Our squad is not overly big, but were at home and the condition of the players physically is very good. So I had no concerns about that.”
“The work rate in training and the games has been fantastic,” continued the Northern Irishman. “We will recover well after a very good performance and result, and now we are all really looking forward to Sunday.”
Following a shaky start to the season, Liverpool currently lie 12th in the Premier League table with nine points from eight games played and would fall nine points behind local rivals Everton with defeat at Goodison Park.
