Swansea Focus – Swans gain momentum despite loss at Man City

Saturday evening’s defeat at Manchester City would have come as a harsh result to Michael Laudrup’s Swansea. The Welsh outfit dominated the Premier League champions for the entire first half, and despite failing to hit the back of the net, the Swans looked dominant in a way they haven’t looked since the campaign’s start.

Swansea played Roberto Mancini’s side off the park before the break, and despite City clawing their way back during the second half, the Jacks looked hugely impressive especially considering their poor form on the road.

The biggest news coming from their 1-0 loss at the Etihad Stadium must be the loss of not only Michel Vorm to injury, but Angel Rangel to a one-match ban. The Spaniard picked up his fifth yellow card this season, resulting in him being unavailable for his club’s League Cup trip to Liverpool in midweek.

Vorm is likely to be sidelined for four to six weeks after he suffered a groin injury that saw him stretchered off during the second half. The Dutchman’s absence could prove to be fatal to Laudrup’s side, which is still reeling from the loss of Kyle Bartley (thigh) and Neil Taylor (broken ankle) to injuries.

Swansea’s defeat was a clear improvement over their home victory against Wigan last week, with the Welsh club’s momentum building with particular vigour in preparation for their midweek visit to Liverpool.

A win over their Merseyside counterparts could prove to be a vital turnaround in Swansea’s season, a victory would leave Laudrup’s men on an all-time high since their opening few games of the campaign.

Confidence will be crucial if the Swans have a chance in grabbing all three points over visiting Chelsea at the Liberty Stadium come next weekend. Michu, who looked close to scoring at several times against Manchester City, will need to regain the form that was sparked back in August in order to revitalize his club’s ambitions and playing mentality, which has taken a blow in recent weeks.
