Jack Wilshere has made his first Arsenal appearance in more than a year after playing for more than an hour in the Gunners’ Under-21 defeat by West Bromwich Albion, the BBC
Wilshere was substituted after 63 minutes of play, with the BBC describing his performance as “lacking sharpness [but] lively.” Frimpong was judged able to stay on the pitch for longer than his teammate, not being withdrawn until the 70th minute.
Frimpong has missed the last seven months of football after suffering a knee injury while on loan last season at Wolverhampton Wanderers, with the injury ruling Frimpong out of the rest of the season as the Midlands side were relegated.
Wilshere has missed twice as long as Frimpong, with the BBC noting that the England international’s time absent reached 14 months after a series of setbacks and complications. Wilshere’s last Arsenal game – the one in which he suffered the initial injury to his ankle – came in August last year, a friendly against Major League Soccer side New York Red Bulls.
