Ibrahim Afellay, the Barcelona midfielder on loan at Schalke, has warned Arsenal that the Bundesliga side are targeting a second successive victory over their Premier League rivals when the sides meet in the Champions League, the
Afellay was one of the principal reasons Schalke recorded a victory at the Emirates Stadium in the last round of Champions League fixtures, the Mirror added, with the Netherlands international scoring the second goal of the 2-0 victory, confirming Arsenal’s first-ever Champions League defeat at the Emirates.
The result left Schalke top of Group B, a point clear of the Gunners, and four points ahead of Olympiakos in third. With the top two going through to the next round – but the group winners theoretically facing a less difficult opponent – first place is a valued prize, and one, Afellay says, Schalke are not of a mind to give up easily.
“To win in London was a serious warning to Arsenal. Now they know Schalke is able to put on big performances and we can do it again.
“If we win again then we will ¬practically have enough points to qualify,” Afellay said.
“Arsenal are very dangerous and the match is important to them. They need a result to make sure the pressure is less in their last two matches. Every team has defeats. We’ve had ours and Arsenal lost at Old Trafford. But we believe our attack can hurt their defence.”
