Sergio Aguero believes Manchester City can overcome the disappointment of early elimination from the Champions League to win back-to-back Premier League titles, the
City were knocked out of the Champions League at the group stage for the second successive season in midweek, after failing to beat Real Madrid at the Etihad Stadium when only a win was enough for Roberto Mancini’s side. City fell behind to an early Karim Benzema goal and, although Aguero levelled from the penalty spot in the second-half, it was not enough to keep City in the competition.
Despite their struggles in Europe – where City have so far failed to win a game this season and may not even qualify for the Europa League – Aguero is confident that the Blues can win a second Premier League title in as many seasons. The Argentine is buoyed by City’s return to the summit last weekend, the first time this season city have topped the table.
“I’m sure we will retain our title, Aguero said. “It’s true that we don’t have the same flair in games that we had last season and we’ve scored fewer goals for sure. But the Premier League table says something different. It says we are very hard to beat, top of the table and defending well, so we can’t be doing that badly can we?”
