The 22 year old signed at Anfield for £15m this summer, following Rodgers from Swansea to Merseyside, and the current Liverpool midfielder has been compared to the Barcelona great for his ball distribution and his possession ability. Rodgers said he would have paid millions more than he did for Allen and that pressure is something the Welshman relishes and enjoys. Allen admitted he is far off being close to the Spanish international, but wants to get there one day and is confident he can make that step.
Allen said: “I’m ambitious and as long as I keep working and developing, why shouldn’t I aim to be as good as someone like Xavi? I know I’m miles off at the moment, but there’s no reason why we can’t produce that level of player in Britain.”
Allen and Rodgers travel back to the Liberty Stadium for the first time since their moves to Anfield, with Swansea just inside the top half and Liverpool sat 12th in the table. Rodgers is prepared for the abuse he may receive from Swansea supporters and will be looking for a win for the Reds on his first return to South Wales.
