Arsenal match a must-win for Tottenham, claims Gallas

William Gallas believes Tottenham Hotspur have to beat Arsenal when the sides meet this weekend as Andre Villas-Boas’ side prepare for a run of games that sees they meet the sides surrounding them in the Premier League, the Daily Telegraph has reported.

Tottenham currently sit seventh in the table, a place and a point better off than the Gunners. Following their visit to the Emirates Stadium, however, Spurs meet West Ham, who are sixth, ninth-place Fulham and the team currently in the final Champions League qualification spot, fourth, Everton. In that stretch of games also comes the visit of Liverpool, now in 13th, all before mid-December.

Gallas spent four seasons as an Arsenal player having made the move across London from Chelsea in 2006, making 140 appearances for Arsene Wenger’s side before switching to Tottenham when his contract with the Gunners expired in 2010. Gallas has since played 65 times for Spurs, captaining the side on a number of occasions.

Speaking ahead of the fixture with his former club, Gallas said: “It is the big derby. We need a good result there. We have to do something. If we believe in it maybe we can finish fourth, but there are so many teams who want to finish fourth as well.
