Arsenal to offer Wilshere improved deal

Arsenal are to offer England midfielder Jack Wilshere a new contract, despite the 20-year-old having two and a half years left on his current contract, reports the Metro.

Wilshere has returned to the Gunners team in recent weeks following a longterm ankle injury, and has made three Premier League appearances so far.

According to the report, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is desperate to avoid the possibility of Wilshere leaving on a free transfer when his contract expires, or indeed leaving negotiations to the last minute, as has occurred with Theo Walcott’s contract at the Emirates.

Wilshere currently earns around £50,000 per week, but is looking to increase that to £90,000 in order to sign a new, longterm contract with the North London side.

Arsenal’s current wage bill was this week discovered to be £1million more per week than rivals Tottenham. The Gunners revealed an increase in wages of 15% in 2011-12, to £143.4m, meaning they spent £52m in order to finish one point ahead of Spurs.
