Rafael Benitez believes that Chelsea are still in the Premier League title race, according to
Asked whether or not Chelsea can still win the league, Benitez, appointed to replace Roberto Di Matteo, replied: “Why can’t we? It’s still a long way to go. We have to keep going. We’ll have chances.”
Benitez was speaking after Wednesday night’s game at Stamford Bridge against Fulham, where his side secured a second goalless draw in his first two games.
After being four points clear at the top of the league in October, Chelsea have fallen back to third place, seven points behind leaders Manchester United. They have only won once in November and face another London derby away at West Ham in the early kick-off on Saturday.
Benitez though is optimistic Chelsea’s forward play is in good shape. “I saw a lot of positive things, sustaining the attacks and regaining the ball very high. We have to link with our attacking players and we have to do it quicker.
“If you give the defenders time to reorganise it is always harder, even with the players we have. The shape of the team is OK, but we have to play with a little bit more tempo and quicker for the players that we have up front.
