Fernando Torres has a month to prove his worth at Chelsea – and then the club will swoop for his replacement if the former Liverpool striker cannot find some form, the
Metalist Kharkiv forward Taison is said to be the player Chelsea have identified as a January signing to bolster their attacking roster in the event of Torres’ depressed form continuing. The Brazilian was at Stamford Bridge to see Chelsea’s goalless draw with Fulham and reports in South America say a £10m deal will be confirmed next week.
Taison caught the eye with a spectacular Europa League goal earlier in the season, one reminiscent of Marco van Basten’s famous strike at Euro ‘88 against Russia. He is also a former teammate of Oscar from their days together at Internacional, and has played since leaving Brazil in 2010.
Interim Chelsea manager Rafael Benitez is understood to have placed Torres on a specific training regime in an attempt to get the best from his compatriot and is not yet ready to give up on the striker, but is said to be willing to tell the club’s owner, Roman Abramovich, that it would be in Chelsea’s best interests to cut their losses with the misfiring Spaniard.
