Andre Schurrle could be the subject of a renewed transfer push by Chelsea in the January transfer window as Roman Abramovich prepares to give Rafael Benitez an alternative to Fernando Torres, the
Schurrle was a name under consideration by former manager Roberto Di Matteo over the summer as the Italian sought a powerful striker to replace Didier Drogba, the newspaper adds, but Chelsea scouts recently watched the 22-year-old Bayer Leverkusen forward. Schurrle’s versatility is also said to be desired at Stamford Bridge, with the Germany international capable of playing on the flanks.
The Mirror believe that Chelsea’s long-term interest in Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao is unlikely to lead to a bid in January as the Spanish club would be reluctant to sell as long as their hopes of Champions League qualification remain alive.
If Schurrle proves too expensive for Chelsea’s taste then they could turn to Marouane Fellaini, the Everton midfielder-cum-forward who has seven goals to his name thus far this season, including a goal on Wednesday evening as the Toffees drew 1-1 with Arsenal.
