Chelsea target Falcao wants Atletico stay

Chelsea’s hopes of landing Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao in the upcoming winter transfer window have taken a blow after the Columbia international revealed he wants to stay with his current side, the Daily Mirror has reported.

Falcao has scored 35 goals in his 45 games for Atleti, helping Diego Simeone’s side to second in La Liga this season, three points behind league leaders Barcelona but eight ahead of local rivals Real Madrid, who languish in third. Falcao has been mentioned as a possible target for Jose Mourinho’s side as well as Chelsea but insists he has no plans to leave Atletico in the near future.

At Atletico Madrid I have a contract for three more years and I will not at this time think about future,” Falcao said, adding: “We are fighting for important things that are at stake and valuable titles. I will not lose concentration for anything in the world.

Chelsea got a close-up look at Falcao when they met Atletico in the European Super Cup earlier this season. Atletico qualified for the match as Europa League holders and added the Super Cup to their trophy cabinet thanks in large part to Falcao, who scored a first-half hat-trick in the 4-1 victory. Miranda scored Atletico’s other goal, while Gary Cahill grabbed a consolation for the Premier League side.
