Evra claims Balotelli wants to leave Man City and make Italy return

Manchester United captain Patrice Evra has claimed that Mario Balotelli, the Manchester City forward, wants to leave the Premier League champions and return to Italian football, the Daily Mirror has reported.

The pair are said to be good friends despite the rivalry between their respective clubs, with Evra a fluent Italian speaker having started his playing career on the peninsula. Speaking with Italian television this week, the left-back let slip that Balotelli is feeling a little homesick.

Evra said: “Mario really misses Italy. I don’t know if he will stay in Manchester, because he wants to return to his country. I am not his agent – I am only telling you how he feels.

The former France captain added that while they are competitors on the pitch – with the season’s first Manchester derby to come next month – off it they are friendly, spending a lot of time together in Manchester.

Balotelli began his career under his Manchester City manager, Roberto Mancini, at Inter, winning three Serie A titles, the Coppa Italia and the Champions League during his time with Mancio and later Jose Mourinho.
