The pair are said to be good friends despite the rivalry between their respective clubs, with Evra a fluent Italian speaker having started his playing career on the peninsula. Speaking with Italian television this week, the left-back let slip that Balotelli is feeling a little homesick.
Evra said: “Mario really misses Italy. I don’t know if he will stay in Manchester, because he wants to return to his country. I am not his agent – I am only telling you how he feels.”
The former France captain added that while they are competitors on the pitch – with the season’s first Manchester derby to come next month – off it they are friendly, spending a lot of time together in Manchester.
Balotelli began his career under his Manchester City manager, Roberto Mancini, at Inter, winning three Serie A titles, the Coppa Italia and the Champions League during his time with Mancio and later Jose Mourinho.
