Falcao price tag pushes Chelsea to look at other options

Chelsea have backed away from their pursuit of Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao over the price on the player’s head, with the Premier League side now examining options believed to be cheaper than the Colombia international, the Daily Mirror has reported.

Now on Chelsea’s watch list are believed to be Jackson Martinez, a compatriot of Falcao’s who has made a barnstorming start to his Porto career following a summer move, and France international Loic Remy, a long-standing target of a number of English clubs. Both are considered to be less costly options than Falcao, who is valued at only slightly under £50m by his club.

In contrast, Porto would demand around £20m for Martinez, having paid £8m to Jaguares for his services over the summer, with his worth sky-rocketing after scoring nine goals in his first 14 games for the club. Marseille striker Remy would be cheaper still, the Mirror claims, with his price settling at around £15m.
