Ferguson relies on hard work, says Man Utd striker Rooney

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has revealed that the message behind each one of Sir Alex Ferguson’s team talks is that you must work hard if you want to succeed, the Daily Mail has reported.

Rooney added that there are times when the manager is speaking and the players are wondering what point he is trying to make, but his words eventually resonate, his point is made and the players feel ready for the second-half of the match.

That point is so often regarding the value of hard work, Rooney continued. The England striker, who missed the national team’s friendly defeat to Sweden with an ankle injury, said that Ferguson is often at pains to remind his players that sheer talent is not always enough.

Rooney continued: “The boss’ words always hark back to hard work. People win things in football, in business, in life because they work hard and despite all the talent in the dressing room he makes us remember that we must put the hours in. The quality is there; you are Manchester United, of course it is. But what wins us things is effort.

The former Everton forward also noted that the Ferguson seen by most football fans is vastly different from the Ferguson around the training ground or on away trips, when he lets the veneer of intimidation slip .Ferguson is noted for his supposed-hairdryer treatment of players at times he is particularly displeased but Rooney went so far as to describe his manager’s personality on those occasions away from the intesity of a match as “bubbly”.
