Juan Mata has revealed his faith in his Chelsea and Spain teammate Fernando Torres, backing the striker to hit the goal trail again soon, the
Torres scored in midweek against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League after capitalising on a mistake by the visiting goalkeeper, but has struggled to find his scoring touch since moving to Chelsea from Liverpool, Chelsea’s weekend opponents, in January 2011. Torres has scored 18 goals in 83 games for the Blues, around a goal every four-and-a-half games.
None of Torres’ Chelsea goals have come against his former team, nor has Torres been on the winning side when meeting his old employers. The only time Chelsea have beaten Liverpool while Torres has been on their books was last season’s FA Cup final, but Torres did not make it on to the pitch, spending the entire match as an unused substitute.
Mata said: “I believe in Fernando, that he will score goals, because I know him, know how hungry he is, inside himself. Every day he is looking to score. Every day he trains so hard, and because I know him I know how he is inside his own mind.
“For sure he is going to score goals. He is still young, only 28, he has some years still to go. I believe in him because he is a true person and very professional.”
