Alex McLeish has spoken about his time at Villa Park last season and believes that the club’s problems stemmed from a lack of consistency and a need to make changes in a short space of time. Villa finished 16th last season, just two points away from relegation, and ended the season with only four home victories all season.
McLeish took over the club as they were going through a transition and plenty of young players had to be thrown into the first team, when they might not have been ready. The 53 year old admits that there were not enough positive results to keep his job, but the fact changes had to be made every week did not help his cause.
McLeish insisted that although the experience at Villa was tough, with ‘criticism through the internet and some newspapers’ making his job difficult, he thoroughly enjoyed his time at Villa Park and wants to get back into the Premier League at the next available opportunity.
