Luis Nani is edging towards the Old Trafford exit door after a row with Sir Alex Ferguson over an incident towards the end of Manchester United’s Capital One Cup defeat against Chelsea in midweek, the
Ferguson was unhappy that the winger did not retain possession late in the match, instead attempting a risky pass that saw Chelsea turn over the ball and, in the last minute of normal time, score to make the tie 3-3. Chelsea went on to win the match 5-4 after extra time.
Nani and Ferguson are said to have argued about the goal after the match, while Ferguson was publically critical of Nani for losing control of the ball at such a critical time, claiming the Portugal international should have kept the ball in the corner flag rather than attempt anything else.
United are still said to be hopeful of tying down Nani to a longer-term contract than the one he is currently under but negotiations have thus far proved fruitless. Nani is said to feel he does not have a place in Ferguson’s plans anymore and is keen to move on, having been at the club since a 2007 move from Sporting Lisbon.
