Norwich interested in West Ham’s Cole and Arsenal misfit Chamakh

Norwich City manager Chris Hughton is considering a move for two Premier League strikers in an effort to boost his side’s chances of avoiding relegation, the Daily Mail has reported. West Ham United’s Carlton Cole and Marouane Chamakh of Arsenal are the players said to be on the manager’s list.

Cole has found himself marginalised at Upton Park following the arrival of Andy Carroll on loan from Liverpool, with the former Chelsea centre-forward yet to score in his nine appearances for the Hammers this season.

Chamakh, meanwhile, has failed to adapt to life in English football following his free transfer move to Arsenal from Bordeaux in 2010. In the last two-and-a-half years Chamakh has made 65 appearances for the Gunners, scoring 14 goals, with only two appearances – and as many goals – coming this season. Chamakh netted twice in the Capital One Cup comeback win over Reading, but an appearance in the prior round against Coventry City is Chamakh’s only other contribution to Arsenal this season.

Norwich are currently 15th in the table, five points clear of 18th-place Reading, and welcome Manchester United to Carrow Road at the weekend when the league programme resumes after the midweek internationals.
