The Spanish striker made his Chelsea debut against Liverpool but has not yet been on the winning side of the contest as a Blues player. Liverpool have instead won four of the five meetings between the sides since early 2011, while the only time Chelsea reversed the outcome, the 2012 FA Cup final, came and went with Torres as an unused substitute.
Chelsea fell from first place in the league a week ago after they could only draw with Swansea City while Manchester United recorded a victory over Arsenal, the first time this season that Sir Alex Ferguson’s team have reached the summit. Chelsea had been league leaders since the early weeks of the campaign.
Torres said: “It’s a big game and now we are in second position in the table. We want to be at the top as soon as we can, so the first step is winning against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.
“[Liverpool] are really looking forward to the game because they need points, they need to win these kinds of big games to get confidence. But we also need them so hopefully the three points can stay at Stamford Bridge.”
