Abramovich angry at Chelsea defeat to West Ham

Roman Abramovich is said to be deeply unhappy at Chelsea’s Premier League defeat against West Ham United on Saturday, with the Daily Mirror reporting a run of three games without victory has already left interim manager Rafael Benitez on shaky ground.

Chelsea are currently in their worst spell of league form since 1995, with Benitez in charge for the last three games after replacing Roberto Di Matteo around a fortnight ago. Chelsea are now 10 points adrift of Manchester United at the top of the table, having started the season as early pacesetters under former midfielder Di Matteo.

Abramovich is thought to be concerned that Benitez is persisting with tactics similar to those of Di Matteo, sending the players out in a 4-2-3-1 formation, but has stopped short of directly telling the manager to change the team’s style of play.

Chelsea held a half-time lead against the Hammers after Juan Mata struck before the interval, but second-half goals from Carlton Cole, Mohammed Diame and Modibo Maiga saw the points remain at Upton Park and left Benitez searching for a first win as Chelsea boss.
