Abramovich to make Falcao highest-paid Chelsea player

Roman Abramovich is willing to make Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao the highest-paid player at Chelsea if the Colombia international agrees a move to the Premier League club, the Daily Mail has reported.

Falcao would earn £10m per year at Chelsea, which works at out around £200,000 per week – substantially more than the pay packet of Fernando Torres, who is currently Chelsea’s biggest earner. The former Liverpool forward is said by the Mail to receive £175,000 per week following his 2011 move to Chelsea from the Reds.

The big money is on offer to Falcao in an attempt to show how much he is wanted by the Chelsea hierarchy, as well as fight off any interest in the free-scoring 26-year-old from other clubs around Europe.

Falcao has hit 19 goals in 15 games for Atletico so far this season, including five in his last La Liga appearance against Deportivo La Coruna, and a spell earlier in the campaign when he netted 13 goals in eight games – including a hat-trick against Chelsea in the European Super Cup. Europa League holders Atletico won the match 4-0.
