Ake eyes more Chelsea action after Boxing Day debut

Chelsea youngster Nathan Ake has spoken of his delight after making his debut for the London club in the Boxing Day fixture, Goal.com has reported.

Ake, aged 17, made a late substitute appearance for the Blues in their narrow 1-0 win over Norwich at Carrow Road, and despite admitting some nerves, the Dutch youngster said he relished the opportunity.

“I was nervous when I was brought on. But it was 1-0, so I thought I should just do my job. The coach gave me a few assignments and he told me to enjoy it. Afterwards, the players congratulated me, this was very nice.”

Ake transferred from Dutch side Feyernoord in 2011, having represented the Netherlands under-17’s side on three occasions. Although he feels his best position is in defence, he also an adept midfielder as well. After making his debut, coming on in midfield for Juan Mata, he knows he’s still got a lot of work to earn more chances at Stamford Bridge.

“Of course I’m now very happy and proud, but at the same time, I realise that I need to keep working hard because this is just the beginning.”

Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Norwich moved the London club up to 3rd, 11 point behind leaders Manchester United, albeit with a game in hand. They next meet high-flying Everton on Sunday at Goodison Park.
