Arsenal drawn against Bayern Munich in Champions League

Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski will meet some familiar faces when the Gunners play Bayern Munich in the second round of the Champions League after the Premier League side were drawn against last season’s defeated finalists, the BBC has reported.

Podolski played for Bayern between 2006 between 2006 and 2009, joining the Bavarian giants from Koln and later returning to his former club, before moving to Arsenal this summer. Podolski scored 26 goals for Bayern in his 106 appearances. In his time thus far at Arsenal Podolski has found the net eight times, playing 26 games.

Arsenal have never won the Champions League but have progressed out of the group stage every season for the last 16 years, and reached the final in 2006 when they were defeated by Barcelona.

Bayern last won the Champions League in 2001 and have won the Champions League or European Cup four times and finished as runners-up four times, including against Manchester United in 1999 and 2012 against Chelsea, when they lost on penalties in their own Allianz Arena.
