Arsenal are preparing to make an £8m bid for Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina, Goal.com
The Gunners have struggled in the ‘keeper department this season, with injuries affecting first-choice stopper Wojceich Szczesny. The 22-year-old Poland international missed eight weeks of the season with an ankle injury.
The report suggests that Liverpool could be willing to let their number one leave Anfield, if they can secure a deal for the young Birmingham goalie Jack Butland – The finances of the Midlands club may necessitate the sale of the recently capped Butland, allowing for the Reina transfer to North London.
Reina, 30, has been first-choice in the Liverpool side since his move from Villarreal in 2005 – he has also not missed more than six Premier League games in any campaign to date, including four seasons in a row without missing a match.
If any deal were to happen in January, it would be possible that Reina could face his old club immediately. Liverpool travel to the Emirates Stadium for a league clash on 30th January, one day before the winter transfer deadline closes.
