Arsenal linked to move for Chelsea midfielder Lampard

Frank Lampard is said to be a surprise transfer target for Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, the Daily Mirror has reported, after Chelsea manager Rafael Benitez revealed the England international could leave Stamford Bridge in the summer.

Lampard is out of contract at the end of this season and Benitez, the interim Chelsea boss, believes the veteran will move on when the campaign comes to a close. Wenger has in the past focused on signing younger, emerging talent but is understood to have detailed his scouting team to find more experienced players who could guide the youngsters he already has on his books.

At 34, Lampard could fit the bill for Wenger, who is mulling over whether or not to make an offer for the midfielder in the January transfer window. Lampard has also been linked with a move to Major League Soccer and the LA Galaxy, as well as Queens Park Rangers, where his uncle, Harry Redknapp, was recently appointed as manager with a brief to escape relegation.
