Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley has emerged as a doubt for Sunday’s Manchester derby after picking up a calf injury in his side’s shock 1-0 defeat to CFR Cluj.
The England international limped off after 45 minutes at Old Trafford, as a much-changed Man Utd eventually conceded the only goal of the game in the second-half, Luis Alberto’s 56th minute strike enough to give the Romanian side a famous victory.
Indeed, according to the BBC,
“We will assess Tom in the morning,” said his manager, Sir Alex Ferguson. “He felt his calf a little but it is not good news. We’ll see what he’s like tomorrow.”
The Red Devils qualified as group winners after winning their first four Group H matches, allowing Ferguson to make a string of changes for their final two fixtures against Galatasaray and Cluj, both of which ended in defeat.
“We have won the group but we know the likes of Shakhtar, Milan, Porto – all the big names – are in there,” continued Ferguson.
“We qualified comfortably but the real tournament starts at the end of February. The knockout stages are fantastic.”
