Man City battling Chelsea and Tottenham for Obiang

A three-way race is developing among Premier League teams for the signature of Sampdoria midfielder Pedro Obiang, the Daily Mail has reported. Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are all said to be keen on the 20-year-old Spanish midfielder.

Obiang has been at Sampdoria since 2008 and it was suggested earlier in the season he could seek a return to his homeland, but the player’s agent insists Obiang is only concentrating on his current club – but admitted there is interest in his client’s services from clubs in Italy and Spain as well as England.

Sampdoria are currently 13th in Serie A and on Monday lost 2-0 at home to Udinese, through goals from Danilo and Antonio Di Natale. Obiang played the full 90 minutes but could not prevent a fourth home defeat of the season for the Genoa side, who next travel to Catania.

Obiang moved to Samp from Atletico Madrid but never featured in the first team, heading to Italy as a 16-year-old. Eligible for Gabon and Equatorial Guinea as well as Spain, Obiang has been capped at youth level by the latter but has also been named in a senior Gabon squad without playing.
