Man City midfielder Silva facing race to be fit for Man Utd match

David Silva is struggling for fitness ahead of one of the biggest matches for Manchester City this season, the weekend’s visit of local rivals and Premier League leaders Manchester United, the Daily Mail has reported.

The Spain international has suffered a hamstring injury and will not play for City against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League this week, but he may also be forced out of the Manchester derby on Sunday, dealing a blow to City’s manager, Roberto Mancini.

Silva has this season made 16 appearances for City, scoring once, while since moving to the Etihad Stadium from Valencia in 2010 has played in more than 100 games, getting on the score sheet on 15 occasions.

City and United are set to meet with the sides separated by only three points at the top of the table. A United victory would give them a commanding lead heading into the festive period, while if City claim the points they will overtake United on goal difference, the same measure by which City won the title last season.
