Manchester United look to consolidate their position at the top of the Barclays Premier League when they host Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday.
United’s 3-2 away win against rivals Manchester City last weekend moved Sir Alex Ferguson’s men six points clear in the title race, and was their fourth consecutive victory.
Man Utd come up against a Sunderland side that picked up only their second win in 12 last weekend, when they defeated Reading 3-0 at home. Martin O’Neill’s side currently sit 15th in the league, just one point above the relegation zone.
For United, Nemanja Vidic is set to return to the starting line-up following a long-term knee injury. Nani, Anderson, and Shinji Kagawa are out of contention until the new year through injury. David De Gea is set to start in goal.
Sunderland meanwhile could be without both Adam Johnson and Danny Rose, who face late tests after picking up knocks in midweek. O’Neill will also wait on the fitness of main striker Steven Fletcher, who is Sunderland top scorer so far with seven goals this season.
