Roberto Mancini believes Mario Balotelli needs to concentrate on his career after the Italy international entered a poor performance during Manchester City’s Premier League defeat to Manchester United on Sunday, the BBC
Balotelli was preferred in attack to both Edin Dzeko and Carlos Tevez but was withdrawn after little more than 50 minutes in favour of Tevez, with City trailing United by two goals. City eventually restored parity through first Yaya Toure and then Pablo Zabaleta, only for United to seal the points with a late Robin van Persie free-kick.
Having recovered from an injury that ruled him out for much of the last month, Balotelli was chosen by Mancini to start despite scoring only once in the league so far this season, and three times in total in all competitions. Balotelli has made 18 appearances for the club in this campaign, picking up as many bookings as goals.
Mancini has warned Balotelli that if he does not knuckle down and focus on improving as a player, he risks wasting his talent. “I love Mario as a guy and a player but it is important for him to start to think about his job. He has everything to play well but he can’t continue to play like today,” Mancini said.
“We want more from Mario because he has everything. He has top quality. When you have a player of this quality you can’t understand that he could continue to throw this out of the window. This is incredible,” the manager added.
